Product Lines: Fiero Brake and Suspension Products

Beginning in the fall of 1994, we applied our expertise to the Fiero by designing, engineering, and testing two brake packages and tubular control arms with coilovers (front and rear) for the 84 to 87 Fiero. These products provide the Fiero with the performance handling and stopping power it deserves. Other products have followed including some items for the 88 and a 3rd brake package for the 84 to 87 Fiero. All products have been designed to meet RCC's "bolt-in" standard, to the maximum extent possible.

Brakes

We have three brake packages for the Fiero, all of which have the following features:

  • Retain the Fiero bolt patterns
  • Use Vented Rotors
  • Provide a hookup at the rear calipers for the stock parking brake
  • Use readily available GM calipers and American made rotors.

Suspension

We have suspension components and packages provide the following features:

  • Permit ride height adjustment up to 2" of lowering
  • Provide full range adjustment of caster and camber
  • Poly Urethane bushings at all frame pivot points
  • Tubular control arms with increased strength, reduced weight and improved appearance over stock arms
  • Premium shocks with ample spring rate selections

  Fiero Brakes

Our 11" rotor package increases the braking capacity over 70% and decreases brake fade by using vented rotors. Generally, this package must be used under 16" or larger wheels.

Our 10" rotor package increases the braking capacity over 50% while also providing a major decrease in brake fade with the vented rotors. The front rotor is actually 10.5" diameter while the rear rotor is 10" diameter. The same calipers used on the 11" brake package are also used on this brake package. This brake package will fit under almost all 15" or larger wheels.

We also have a 12" rotor package that uses Corvette rotors and calipers. This will fit either the 84 to 87 or 88 Fiero and usually requires 17" or larger wheels.

Your stock master cylinder and proportioning valve may be used. You will notice about 1" more pedal travel with the larger cylinders used by our calipers. You may use a larger bore master cylinder to maintain the same brake pedal travel. This master cylinder is available as an optional extra.

The front brake package for all rotor sizes consists of two new aluminum hubs with bearings and seals (stock Fiero bearings and seals are used except for 88 which does not require new hubs), two new rotors, two rebuilt calipers with pads and mounting bolts, two custom brake brackets to mount the calipers, braided stainless steel brake lines, all fasteners and other items required to install. Instructions with illustrations designed to simplify the installation of the system are included.

The rear brake package for all rotor sizes consists of two new rotors, two rebuilt calipers with pads and mounting bolts (these calipers have the manual built-in parking brake), two custom brake brackets to mount the calipers, mounting bracket for parking brake cable, braided stainless steel brake lines, all fasteners and other items required to install (even including the tap to enlarge and tap two metric bolt holes). Illustrated installation instructions are included.

  Fiero Suspensions

Our suspension systems use Carrera Coilover shocks with Carrera springs in the front and premium Gabrial OEM replacement style struts modified for coilovers with Carrera springs in the rear. These work on all 84 to 88 Fieros. You can achieve up to 2" of lowering for your car with this coilover system. The use of coilovers also allows substantial variation in spring rate selection by matching the weight of the car, its intended use, and the preference of the owner.

We have tubular control arms for all points on the 84 to 87 Fiero. Tubular control arms are stronger yet lighter than the stock arms, utilize poly urethane bushings for best handling, use stock Fiero ball joints, are designed to increase the ability of your alignment specialist to properly align your suspension, and look 1000% better than the stock stamped steel arms. Tubular lower control arms must be used in the front on 84-87 cars to utilize coilovers as they are designed solely for use with coilovers. Your stock front upper and rear lower control arms may be used with the coilovers, if desired. However, you will not achieve the maximum handling improvement with the stock arms.

We believe that providing your alignment specialist with a full range of adjustment for both caster and camber settings combined with poly urethane bushings at the frame pivot points is the primary key to improving the handling of your Fiero. In addition to using the aftermarket upper front ball joint with the slotted mounting holes, we have also slotted the holes in the ball joint mounting plate to give maximum camber adjustment. Our adjustable front lower control arm provides easy extensive adjustment for caster. Lowering the car also lowers the roll center, which improves handling, especially cornering.

Fiero Bump Steer Kit (Rear of 84-87 Fiero)

Bump Steer in : The pre 88 Fieros have 1.8 degrees of toe inbump steer at full compression of the strut and 0.6 degrees of bump steer at full extension of the rear strut. This means that each wheel will toe in about 0.44 inches at full compression of the strut.

Compared to the 88 Fiero which has minimal bump steer in the rear, this is certainly one of the causes of the handling instability in the pre 88 Fiero's. Our Bump Steer Kit moves the inboard pivot point of the rear drag link out to eliminate this compression bump steer. The kit has zero degrees of bump steer (+/- 0.3 degree depending on alignment and Pontiac manufacturers tolerance) from full compression of the strut through the first 6 inches of travel. In the last 1 to 1.5 inches of extension travel, the kit will exhibit 1.2 degrees of toe out bump steer, which we deem immaterial since this amount of extension travel will usually be seen only when the car is jacked up for service.
